STATEMENT: As an artist I’m deeply affected by my surroundings, the experience of the landscape and the people who live there. It is an almost physical force, to me. More recently, machine parts from the earth moving industry in conjunction with the figure have found their way into my practice. The use of these incongruent combinations of subject and material helps me to convey nuanced ideas that interest me. Watcher is in part an exploration of figurative form, a meeting place with industry and a quirky invocation to be observant.
ARTIST BIO: My practice of drawing, tracing, welding, bending and cutting has been punctuated by traditional methods of modeling and casting the human form, a consistent subject for conceptual explorations. Drawing and painting has assisted in the development of ideas for sculpture and accompanied me on journeys into the landscape.
