Why Sculptures in the Garden is One of Regional Australia’s Must-Visit Sculpture Events
Each spring, the gardens and vineyards of Rosby Wines in Mudgee are transformed into an extraordinary outdoor gallery for Sculptures in the Garden.
Bringing together more than 300 sculptures and artworks by local, regional and interstate artists, the annual exhibition offers the chance to experience contemporary sculpture in a setting unlike a traditional gallery.
Sculpture in the Landscape
One of the things that makes Sculptures in the Garden so special is its setting. Works in stone, bronze, steel, timber and found objects are placed throughout the gardens and vineyard, creating unexpected moments of discovery as visitors explore the property.
From intimate pieces to large-scale installations, each work interacts differently with the surrounding landscape, encouraging visitors to slow down, look closer and experience sculpture from a new perspective.
More Than an Exhibition
Across 16 days, there is something new to discover every visit.
Alongside the main outdoor exhibition, the program includes artist demonstrations, guided tours, kids activities, interactive experiences, live music, local food and Rosby wines.
In 2026, visitors can also take part in My Kingdom for a Horse, a collaborative community sculpture project where people of all ages can work alongside professional artists to help create life-sized horses from locally gathered sticks and branches.
Supporting Australian Artists
At its heart, Sculptures in the Garden is about celebrating sculpture and supporting the artists who create it.
All artworks in the exhibition are available for purchase, giving visitors the opportunity to take home an original work while directly supporting Australian artists.
More than $60,000 in prize money across 10 categories also recognises artistic excellence and provides valuable opportunities for emerging and established sculptors.
A Lasting Legacy
The impact of Sculptures in the Garden extends well beyond the exhibition itself.
Over 16 years, the event has helped establish a remarkable collection of permanent public sculpture throughout the Mudgee region. Today, 52 acquired works form an evolving outdoor gallery that can be enjoyed by the community and visitors year-round.
Many of these works can be discovered along the Mudgee Sculpture Walk, creating a lasting connection between the annual exhibition and the town.
