Sculptures in the Garden is excited to announce that Stephen King will open the 2019 event. Stephen was born in Bingara and once realising his interest in the arts, he studied at Sydney College of the Arts before moving to London to undertake post graduate at St Martin’s School of Arts. From here, his career blossomed back in Australia (where he took ownership of 1200 hectares of his family farm) and has exhibited at multiple galleries and exhibitions. Stephen’s uses the everyday of rural life as inspiration and share the trials and tribulations that farm life occupies.
Stephen has won an array of prizes including Sculptures by the Sea in 1999, 2011, 2013 and 2014 and shown collections at Coventry Collection, Newcastle Regional Art Gallery, Tamworth Regional Art Gallery and Parliament House, Canberra. Stephen loves connecting with likeminded artists, often hosting Sculpture by the Sea’s international artists at his farm near Walcha. The beauty of Stephen’s work is that they feel at home in both an urban and rural setting, something that other sculptors struggle to achieve. We look forward to welcoming Stephen to Mudgee in October.
